Cultivating Leaders for Social Change (CLSC)

The Center for Leadership Learning offers two certificate programs open to all undergraduate students. Students do not need to commit to a certificate program in order to attend our quarterly workshops.

1. Complete and submit the CLSC Enrollment Form

2. Complete the nine prerequisite LEWS workshops (workshops listed below)

Gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of differences, improve your ability to effectively address complex issues, and learn how to cultivate an inclusive environment in an organization or workplace! 
 

Cultivating Leaders for Social Change, previously known as the Diversity Leadership Development Program (DLDP), provides an immersive experience through the integration of competency-building seminars, applied learning, and sustained dialogue.

CLSC admits one cohort per year; participants meet weekly in the Winter and Spring Quarters to engage in  a class and dialogue session.  For the 2023 cohort, this weekly seminar will be on Tuesdays from 4:10-6:00 pm.

Program Structure

Duration is two quarters (Winter and Spring), not including the prerequisite of nine Leadership Essentials Workshops (LEWS)

LEWS

   DLDP Program Structure Icons  Topical Seminars and Sustained Dialogue

  • meet weekly to participate in class sessions and sustained dialogue
  • seminar topics include inclusive leadership theory, values and ethics, personal identity, intersectionality, privilege, power, systemic oppression, allyship, conflict management, emotional self-control, humility, and self-care

     Applied Experience

  • complete a relevant project or internship

     Weekly Assignments

  • read articles, watch videos, write reflections

 

 

2023 Schedule

Seminars are held weekly (in person) in both Winter and Spring Quarters; applied experience is scheduled independently. 

  • Winter Quarter (January 10 - March 24): Tuesdays 4:10-6:00 pm
  • Spring Quarter (April 4 - May 30): Tuesdays 4:10-6:00 pm
  • Certificate Award Ceremony: Friday, June 2, 12:00-1:30 pm


Enrollment Process

Enrollment for the 2023 cohort is now open; the deadline to enroll is November 4, 2022.

  • Complete and submit the CLSC Enrollment form (available here until November 4)

    This form will take 15-20 minutes and includes the following four short-answer response questions:
    * What is your previous experience with learning or talking about issues related to social justice?
    * What social justice issues are you interested in exploring? Which issues are you nervous talking about?
    * What does inclusive leadership look like to you?
    * Why do you want to be a part of the CLSC? What are you hoping to get out of the certificate program?

     
  • Complete the following nine 50-minute prerequisite Leadership Essentials (LEWS) workshops prior to the start of the program:

    • Beyond the Visible
    • More than Just Words
    • Navigating Conflict With Others
    • Inclusion is Essential
    • Confronting Oppression

  • Attend an Enrollment information session (to be scheduled in Fall Quarter 2022)
