SLDS Group Projects

The Student Leadership Development Program is new for the 2017-18 academic year; prior to that, CLL offered the "Student Leadership Development Series."  While there are significant differences between the two programs, SLDS groups also conducted Group Projects similar to the projects SLDP groups will develop.

The SLDS Group Project (GP) was an opportunity for students to collaborate with each other and develop a project to benefit communities of their choice.  Teams showcased their work and practiced their abilities and skills to demonstrate their growth and understanding of working with peers and colleagues.

Students identified issues and opportunities of importance in a community then formulated and implemented a project to address local needs. Typically, group service performed by students fell into one of three categories:

  • Direct – Students work directly with representatives from on-campus or off-campus community organizations
  • Indirect – Students work behind the scenes, providing added-value to existing organizations or departments
  • Community-Based Research (CBR) – Students conduct research to answer a question posed by a community organization or department
