Community-Based Leadership Academy (CBLA)

Partner with off-campus organizations to Lead with Purpose!

CBLA guides you through an intensive community-based learning experience where you will utilize a compilation of leadership competencies to initiate social change.  Enrollment for this pilot year of CBLA is limited to students who have prior certificate completion of the Student Leadership Development Series (SLDS) and/or completion of the Diversity Leadership Development Program (DLDP).

Program Structure

Duration of CBLA is one academic year (Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters).

Topical Seminars
meet with cohort one evening per week
Field Work
conduct ongoing field work with partnering community organizations
Weekly Assignments
read articles, watch videos, write reflections

2017-18 Schedule

All seminars held in The Grove on Monday evenings.  Field work is scheduled independently.

Weekly Seminars:
Fall: October 16th - December 4th, 6:10-8pm
Winter: January 8th - March 12th, 6:10-8pm
Spring: April 2nd - May 14th, 6:10-8pm
Final Presentations: May 21st, 6:10-8pm
Certificate Award Ceremony: June 4th, 6:10-8pm

Enrollment Process

Open Enrollment: August 14th - October 5th, 2017

  1. Meet Prerequisite Requirement: prior certificate completion of the Student Leadership Development Series (SLDS) and/or completion of the Diversity Leadership Development Series (DLDP)
  2. Complete and submit the CBLA pre-assessment registration form
  3. CLL Staff will contact you to schedule a meeting to finalize your enrollment, after which you will be provided the CRN for IST 190
